THE AREA
Kokako Lodge is nestled in the foothills of the Hunua Ranges in the Hunua Ranges Regional Park. With 17000 hectares of parkland, the Hunua Ranges Regional Park is the largest piece of indigenous bush in the Auckland Region, and one of the largest in the North Island. 60% of Auckland’s drinking water originates in this area. The park itself features tramping tracks, mountain biking, amazing scenery, fishing, swimming pools and waterfalls. The Hunua Ranges are also home to Auckland's only mainland population of one of its rarest bird - the kokako, and offers a refuge for the native Hochstetter's frog (pepeke).
